Well, this wraps up the last full week of January…..February is just around the corner! I’m looking out my den window at the falling of nice, fluffy looking snow flakes that has been falling lightly most of the day, but is now beginning to stick. I am very happy I can say I’m in for the duration where I can curl up with a blanket, a cup (or two….or more) of hot herbal tea, and my Kindle on the couch and, hopefully, finish the book I’m currently reading…..the third and last in a series by Elin Hilderbrand – one of my favorite writers. A perfect Saturday afternoon and evening!
And, now for the Photos of the Day for January 28, 2017:
# 28 Photo Prompt – Sign:

“Best Sign Ever!”
I saw this sign earlier in the month and made a mental note to go back by there, weather permitting, on the 28th when the photo prompt was “Sign”. Weather permitted, so I took a drive down Route 18 to Kendall to get this photo! It is the type of sign that makes you want to drive by it every day for the reminder!
# 28 Caught By My Lens:
I love old small sheds, bus stop shantys, little buildings…..etc……regardless of their condition – the older, the better, usually! I don’t know why they fascinate me, but they frequently catch my eye as I’m driving. I always wonder what they were originally used for when they were in better shape and had a specific purpose – especially when they are in an odd location that doesn’t seem to be a logical place for something of their diminutive size. What catches my eye most often are bus stop shantys……it brings back memories of the bus stop shanty at the lake where my Grandparents had a summer cottage – it was there for the year round kids who needed a place to get out of the harsh winter weather while waiting for the bus…..in the summer time, all us seasonal kids used it as our clubhouse and had such fun with it! Anyway…..
This one – I assume it is a bus stop shanty because it is at the end of a long driveway by the road……well, this one cracked me up when it caught my eye this morning on the way to the sign!!! I LOVE IT!!! First thing that came to mind when I saw it was how it is typical for someone to be held in a local jail while awaiting a bus to take them to a larger facility or prison…..HAHAHA!!!

“Best Shed Ever!”
And, then there was this other one that also caught my eye……LOVE this whole scene!!!

“On Frozen Pond”

January 2017’s Photo Prompts:

Sure hope the sun comes out, tomorrow, so I can find a way to do the # 29 photo prompt!!! 🙂

I have seen the previews of this movie several times and really wanted to see it. It has been in theaters for a while, now, so I started worrying that I might miss out if I didn’t get my butt out to see it. So……today, I went to the early bird matinee at Tinseltown and saw it.
Sorry – I’m going to break my own rule and include some spoilers! I won’t spoil it all – there is a lot more to it than what I share, but if you don’t want to know too much before you go see it, you might want to skip reading this review! After all…..it is just my opinion and you might not feel the same if you see it!
By all accounts, Manchester By The Sea should have been a fabulous movie full of gut wrenching emotion and families/friends coming together to heal and care for each other. Well, the gut wrenching emotion was there! But, I have to say I was more than a little disappointed by this movie. On the up side……it was an excellent story and the acting was very good! It had some strong potential. But, in my never to be humble opinion, it fell flat.
Manchester By The Sea is the story of Lee Chandler, played by Casey Affleck (who I usually much prefer over his brother, Ben). Lee lives in Boston and works as a janitor/handy man for an apartment complex and lives in a room in the basement of one of the buildings. He moved there from Manchester, MA after a terrible tragedy occurred in his life. He receives a call that his brother, Joe (played by Kyle Chandler) has died. Joe was diagnosed a few years prior with congestive heart failure and, after several hospitalizations over the years, died from the disease. Lee travels to Manchester to handle the funeral arrangements and to tell Joe’s teenage son, Patrick (played by Lucas Hedges) the news. He is told by Joe’s attorney that Joe’s will names Lee as trustee and guardian of Patrick. Lee’s life is in turmoil and he is an emotional wreck, so he questions whether or not he is a fit guardian for Patrick, but he agrees to see where it all goes and arranges to stay in Manchester at least through the summer to get things settled and not uproot Patrick too quickly. While in Manchester, he is faced with memories and people that open old wounds….including his ex-wife, Randi (played by Michelle Williams).
The movie drags on and on……I kept wishing it would just move on and kept waiting for Lee to begin to see that facing his demons and being around Patrick may help him to heal. But, it all just makes his heart break deeper. Seeing Randi tears him apart because she is remarried and about to have a child with her new husband. He is torn with knowing that staying in Manchester is far too painful, but also knowing that the best thing for Patrick IS to stay there and allow him to not leave school, sports, friends, and the life he is comfortable with. He makes his choice and sets the wheels in motion and then the movie just ENDS…….
Like I said, the story is a really good one and the actors all did an incredible job. But, it was VERY SLOW and I left feeling extremely depressed! I also felt cheated, as the ending was very abrupt and I felt it left too much unsettled! It is definitely a movie about how deeply a tragic loss (and in Lee’s case multiple losses) can effect you and cause serious depression. It also sends a powerful message that sometimes facing your demons and trying to move on with the memories staring you in the face can do more harm than good. Not the message one in Lee’s position really wants to discover. I guess the movie did accomplish what it’s intent was……to elicit deep emotion……cause I sure did feel it! My problem with it is that I go to the movies to be entertained and I’m very much a “happily ever after” kind of girl. So………I personally rate this a 3+ out of 5. If you are as easily overcome with emotion as I am, you may not want to see this movie alone during an afternoon matinee. But, I hate to discount it totally…….
So, I went to the movies, today. I saw a movie I’ve been wanting to see for a while and finally went…..I was afraid it wouldn’t be in the theaters much longer, so wanted to grab it while I could! Well, while it should have been a really outstanding movie, it ended up being a sad disappointment…..and I left the theater feeling depressed by the story and the ending (I’ll write a review in another post, so won’t bore you further, here). The reason I’m mentioning it is that I got home and found a new post by a really funny blogger I’ve been following recently. Her post literally saved my day……it cracked me up!!! Go check her out…..click here for the post that turned my mood around and do yourself a favor and read some of her other stuff…..maybe you’ll like her as much as I do and follow her!
So, now……on with the Photos of the Day for January 27, 2017:
# 27 Photo Prompt – I Can’t Live Without:

“My Life Line”
The subject of this photo is my iPhone……but, it is no accident that it is laying on my Kindle and that there is an app on my phone that links to my Kindle in case I’m out somewhere and want to read, but didn’t bring the Kindle with me!!!
Literally tethered to technology!!!
# 27 Caught By My Lens:

“Vintage Buggy”
This caught my eye on the Ridge near Brockport on my way home from the movie. Thinking it may be an old hearse??? What a shame to see it out in the weather all open like this!

YUM, indeed! Mom and I used to enjoy stopping in the VI for lunch and ordering the salad and shrimp…..perfect light lunch!
# 26 Caught By My Lens:

January 2017’s Photo Prompts:

Well, hello, there…….glad you could pop in and check out my blog!
Before I get into the Photos of the Day, I wanna share a dream I had this morning. I obviously think WAY too much about ideas for the daily photo prompts!
I had an odd dream this morning……I dreamed I was at a big game at my old high school, located in the Village of Albion in NY (this is important context for those of you who don’t know where I went to high school). It was a beautiful sunny day, so I wandered around the campus with my camera. There was a string of vendors and craft tables and I saw lots of old friends who acted like they didn’t know who I was. Then, I noticed a breathtaking river and waterfall that flowed along the back edge of the campus – I commented to some people admiring it that it is funny, but I don’t remember such a beautiful scene when I went to school, here. They looked at me like I was nuts and quickly shuffled off to get away from the crazy lady. I, then, came upon the perfect shot for today’s photo prompt (In The Background). It was a large poster for the Purple Eagles (our HS mascot and name of our sports teams) with a group of football players and cheerleaders posing by it and off in the distance (in the background) there was a perfect view of Mount Rushmore! I tried and tried to get the photo, but my camera wouldn’t work! I told the lady standing next to me that no one is going to believe me that you can see Mt. Rushmore from the AHS campus if I don’t get a photo. I fiddled and fiddle with the camera and finally got it to take a photo, but the shutter stayed open WAY too long, so it was blurry and very white! The camera wouldn’t work, again! Soooooooooooo, although I have no photo evidence……a river and waterfall has developed behind the high school and it is gorgeous……and, you can see Mt Rushmore from there! It’s true…..I saw it!!!!
Once I was fully awake, I headed out for a lunch meeting with a club I belong to and, after lunch, I drove around the country side to find inspiration for today’s photos. So, without further ado……

And, a sneak peak at February’s Photo Prompts:

Hello, Readers! The white stuff made an appearance here, today…..not a lot, just a dusting over night and I probably have 2-3 inches in my yard since this morning. Not bad. I keep reminding myself that it IS winter in WNY…..snow is not an oddity! And, I really don’t mind it that much now that I’m retired and can just say, “think I’ll stay put and watch how pretty it is through my windows where it is warm and comfy!” HAHA!

January 2017’s Photo Prompts:

Today was a very special day! Before I get into the Photos of the Day, I want to share a photo that I didn’t take, cause I was participating in the activity that was being photographed. The choir in our church introduced our brand new choir robes to the congregation, today, and our Pastor Linda performed the Order of Dedication of Choir Robes to bless them and enter them into service. We’re so happy to get the new robes…..I think maybe we sang just a tad bit better with them…..if I do say so, myself! hehehe Here is our choir singing the first anthem in our newly dedicated robes:

And, now……on with the Photos of the Day for January 22, 2017 — the second day in a row that we have been socked in with dense fog, so more foggy photos!
# 22 Photo Prompt – In My Town:

“Foggy Sunday Morning”
# 22 Caught By My Lens:

“Cold and Foggy Sunday at the Point”
Point Breeze, Lake Ontario, NY
And, a BONUS shot:

“Flying in a Fog”
A flock of geese flew over while I was at the Point…..I could hear them loud and clear, but could barely see them…..so glad the photo came out and captured the scene perfectly!!! 🙂

January 2017’s Photo Prompts:

Hello……thanks for stopping by! It is a foggy day here in Western NY……kinda odd – it is 1:00 in the afternoon and the sun has still not come out to burn off the fog, so we’re enjoying what you might call a lazy, hazy day! A real good day to read, relax, and yep, a nice nap…..now that my errands are done!
Here are the photos of the day for January 21, 2017:
# 21 Photo Prompt – Grow:

“Brand New House Plant”
My friend started this from clippings and delivered it this morning. Hoping I don’t kill it! I do great with outdoor stuff – Mother Nature helps me with those – but I am a notorious plant murderer for inside plants! Please pray for this beauty!
# 21 Caught By My Lens:

“Foggy Playground”
Taken about lunch time at Bullard Park in Albion.

And…..some more foggy day photos I took while I was out and about around town this morning:

We may not be in old London town, but this song seems appropriate for the day:

January 2017’s Photo Prompts:

Hello, readers……this winter sure is odd for Western NY……today’s high was close to 50 degrees and I believe it is forecasted to reach over 50 tomorrow! No complaints, here, but can’t stop thinking how odd the season is and wondering when the other shoe will drop! But, for now, I’ll take every gorgeous day that comes our way!

# 20 Photo Prompt – Something White:
I shot two different options for today’s photo prompt. I usually do try to get multiple options and decide which to use based on which one comes out better once they are downloaded. Today, I could not decide between the two options, so you’re getting both!

“Orleans County Courthouse Pillars”

“Albion Free Methodist Church”
# 20 Caught By My Lens:

“Twisted and Broken”
