I used to write some pretty corny poetry — here are two that I wrote about Buffy:
Miss Buffington
Little Buffy is so playful and funny.
She dances and prances and hops like a bunny.
She runs outside and chases butterflies.
And she has soft and big brown eyes.
She’s my doggie and mine alone.
And she loves me, me and me alone.
I love my puppy.
Her name is Buffy.
She loves to play
and run all day.
She has long soft ears
and barks at mirrors.
Her fur is really, really curly
and she licks me out of bed early.
I love my puppy.
Her name is Buffy.
No, not that kind of BOO BOO — an “ouchie” BOO BOO! I have been dealing with a sharp pain in my right side for about 3 weeks now! I thought I pulled a muscle or something, but also recognized that the pain was just about where my gall bladder is, so wondered if it might be that! I started to hurt so bad that I finally gave in and went to the new Urgent Care facility on Hawkins Ave about a week and a half ago. They ruled out gall bladder (no other symptoms associated with gall bladder problems). They took some X-rays because they suspected a cracked rib, but the X-rays didn’t show anything. They concluded it might just be muscular and gave me some pain medicine! It helped with the pain somewhat – at least it helped me sleep through the night without the pain waking me up! But, it got worse again in the last few days and no help from the pain meds – I was up with the pain all night last night! So, I went back to the Urgent Care this morning and they took some more X-rays and asked me a bunch more questions and poked around some more……………I have a fractured rib!!! Man, that hurts!!! It hurts constantly, but is really intense when I move just right, breath in deep, or use my right arm for almost anything. They gave me some more pain medicine to get me through the nights, but there isn’t much else they can do – I just have to take it easy until it heals and that could take up to 8 weeks!!!
They used to wrap fractured ribs in a rib support thingy to restrict movement, but it also restricted deep breathing and full expansion of the lungs – which caused pneumonia!!! So, they don’t do that anymore. They only treat the pain now to help the person with a rib fracture deal with the pain while the rib heals itself.
So, that’s my drama for now — I won’t be doing cartwheels or exotic pole dancing for a while…….

Top Chef is coming back next week — all new season starts on Weds 12th at 10:00 on Bravo…… you know where I’ll be at that time! Woo Hoo!!!
Yep — I zonked out on the couch again and missed the season finale of Project Runway!!! I did set up the recorder, though, so I have it to watch tomorrow — but it is not the same as watching it when it fresh! I came in the den to shut down (and leave this follow up post). While I sat here, I cheated and watched the last few minutes – Christian won!!! I figured he would. I’ll watch the whole thing tomorrow to see what all three did for their final show.
For now – it is about time I went to bed!
OK — I know that several other bloggers have announced the new blog started by Irene Harvley-Felder and they all sang her praises!!! BUT — I feel the urge to put in my two cents here, too.
Irene is a recent addition to our Communities In Schools of Lee County family – she assumed the role of part time Program Coordinator about a month ago and we are so happy to have her! When you read her blog (http://irenefelder.wordpress.com/), you will get a taste of the quality of her work. She puts that same passion and energy into all that she tackles.
I am so glad that her creative juices will now flow in another way — for us blog enthusiasts to enjoy!
Welcome to our blog group, Irene!
Man, I have been so busy all week — I’ve come home from work and crashed on the couch every night so far!!! That’s not good — I have a ton of things that need to be done around here and it is not getting done by me zonking out on the couch and then going in to bed before 10:00!!! I am trying to fight that urge tonight — I need to stay awake long enough to watch the final episode of Project Runway! I’ll be VERY angry with myself if I miss it!!!! I better set up the recorder just in case…….
Thank goodness for back scratchers!!! I have had a spot in the middle of my back that has been driving me crazy for the last hour or so — it is just out of reach!!!! So, the back scratcher I keep at my desk has gotten a lot of use trying to get rid of the itchy spot!!!!
Gonna go check out my blog list to see what everyone else is up to today!
I met a friend at Elizabeth’s for some pizza for supper tonight. While I waited for him to arrive, I sat in the parking lot overlooking the pond at Riverbirch Shopping Center. It was a lovely evening and I enjoyed watching the fountain and the ducks and geese swimming in the pond and walking around the banks. It was so pleasant and relaxing! Listening to the water splashing from the fountain and the ducks and geese squawking almost put me to sleep. I’ll have to remember to take some bread with me and go sit on the picnic benches to feed them when I need a little peace and quiet or just want to enjoy a lovely evening sometime.
It reminded me of when I was a little girl – my Mom would take my brother and me to a farm in a near by town. The farm had a very large pond that was the home for several swans and geese. The owners made it public and people would come from all over to sit around the banks and toss pieces of bread to the swans and geese. The swans were so beautiful and graceful and very entertaining! Of course, swans and geese can be nasty, too — quite often we would run screaming as we were chased by a swan or goose that wanted to nip at us! That was just one of many ways to spend an entertaining day that was full of fun, but didn’t cost my Mom a penny – other than the gas and a picnic lunch.
The pizza and company for supper was very enjoyable, but the memories as I sat waiting for my friend was definitely the icing on the cake!!!
BLOGSPOT has a listing of “Blogs of Note” on it’s dashboard. It is blogs that they highlight and the list is updated throughout the month. I like to click on some of them to see what people around the world blog about — some are pretty cool……
Today, I noticed two that I thought some of my regular readers might find interesting:
http://www.foodmayhem.com/ – this is a blog from New York City all about food! They post pictures, recipes, and other info about food! I didn’t dig in too far, yet, but just what was on their current page was pretty interesting! Some strange stuff – can’t say that I thought some of the sushi images and explanations sounded very appetizing (they talk about “beautiful mini squid” that looked more like a slug to me and the second pic shows the “barbecue like sauce” inside that made it look like it was bleeding! YUCK!). But – it was interesting……….I put it in my favorites and will visit again!
http://peoplereading.blogspot.com/ – this one is from San Francisco! The blogger goes around interviewing people she sees reading books and asks them what they are reading, why they are reading it, what they think of it, and what other books they like to read. I thought it was cool to read some of the interviews. It is an interesting concept for a blog, for sure!
Check out the links and enjoy!!
ALSO – if you click on my “view my complete profile” link and then click on the word “Sanford” in my information, you will be linked to a listing of people with “Sanford” in their profile information that have blogs on BLOGSPOT! There are about 62 listed now and it keeps growing – it is how I found Lisa and Scotty Harland (listed in my blogroll). There is even an empty blog link for Billy Liggett on the list (guess it was one he started before he decided to use WordPress…..) and an older blog that Brooke Wolfe used to post some amazing photos on. You might find someone you know on the list!
I saw Vantage Point today and really liked it!!! I was surprised to discover that one of the criticisms I had for Atonement was just what made this movie appealing to me!! I am talking about the way they showed a scene and then showed the same scene again from a different start point! The difference was that in Atonement, it made it confusing and didn’t seem to add any value to the movie. In Vantage Point, it was done extremely well and was the entire point of the movie — to show how the same event is viewed from several different people’s perspectives! Even though I was watching the same scene over and over again and obviously knew what was coming, I was still riveted to the screen and tense with anticipation! Each time the scene was shown from someone else’s vantage point, it revealed a little more information to paint a bigger picture of what was happening. They pulled it all together beautifully in the end, too…….very good!!
The actors were perfect choices for the characters! Forrest Whitaker was great, as usual – he was successful in making me believe that he was really in the midst of this horrific event by expressing all the emotions I would imagine going through! Poor William Hurt had to be shot over and over and over again, but he also conveyed emotions that were believable. I adore Dennis Quaid and he didn’t disappoint me in this movie — his character was center most in the story and I immediately connected with him.
I really enjoyed this movie — it held my interest through the entire film and I found myself caring for the characters (and hating the ones that were portraying not so nice people).
Will this get added to my video/DVD collection? It just might!
Was I sorry I spent the money on it? Definitely not – I’m glad I chose this one!
Did I enjoy it? Absolutely!!!
Rating – Two thumbs up or an A
What a GREAT day it is today!!! Warm…..Sunny…..Breezy…..Gorgeous Sky…..Perfect!!!!! I decided to take my camera with me and capture some shots of this fabulous day!!!
My first stop was at the movies — not many people chose to be cooped up inside for the early bird matinee! I did, though! I saw the 10:10 AM showing of Vantage Point (I’ll write a review in another post). Take a gander at that fabulous sky!!!
As I drove around town, I noticed TONS of signs that Spring just might have sprung!!! Several yards along Spring Lane and other streets have Daffodils popping up! Here is a shot of a large bed of beautiful Daffodils on the corner of the US 1 on ramp and Horner Blvd. How pretty!! I love Daffodils, Crocus, and Tulips – they scream “new beginnings” and “fresh starts”!!!!
The Temple Theater has a new show starting this coming Thursday (the 6th) – it is a one man show – Mark Twain On Stage!!! It is a limited engagement — only showing until the 16th — so get your tickets quickly! I can’t wait to see it — I saw Hal Holbrook’s version of it many years ago and it was fantastic!! I’m sure this will be well worth the time and $$, as well.
“I’ve been working on the railroad, all the live long day. I’ve been working on the railroad, just to pass the time away.” They sure are doing a lot on the tracks between Chatham Street and Depot Park – new stone, new ties! I hope they are also planning to fix the tracks that cross the streets and make them less bumpy!
Speaking of Chatham Street — there has been a lot of activity going on in those empty buildings beside Renalds lately! Looks like they are well on their way to being beautifully renovated buildings – can’t wait to find out what will go in there!!!
One last great picture to show what a breathtaking day it is!!! The sky over Depot Park is so vivid and the flag is flapping in the breeze — what a shot!!!
