Saturday Ponderings

Youth Leadership applications are being accepted by Communities In Schools and the Sanford Area Chamber of Commerce. This is a GREAT program to help rising Juniors and rising Seniors learn about our community, government, industry, businesses, non-profit organizations, and leadership skills through participation in tours, introductions to community leaders, presentations by area professionals, and lots more!!! Read all about it in Saturday’s Herald – Alison Poole, CIS, was highlighted in the “Take 5” section and provides the details. If you have or know of a rising Junior or rising Senior that could benefit from this program, please contact CIS at 718-5426 for an application — deadline has been extended to May 31st!!!!

I love Bazarro!!! You know, the cartoon in the comic section of the newspaper! Today, they highlight the widespread popularity of blogging. Not only are our Sanford area bloggers growing, but even some of the most unusual people blog – as depicted in today’s Bazarro:

Other thoughts for today:

  • Did George Norman close his store on Wicker Street???? I drove by there the other day and noticed all the windows and doors covered up with paper. Also, it was during business hours and they were not open!!! I really enjoy that shop and have picked up some really nice gifts in there! I hope they are just renovating or something – I’d hate to hear that they are closed!!!
  • Four Corners Framing looked like it was closed last week when I went by there, too – but that wasn’t as obvious as George Norman was!!! I sure hope we aren’t losing some of the great locally owned shops downtown!
  • I haven’t been out and about town the last few days — I am involved in something that I’ll be blogging about in a few days, so not a lot of local interest stuff to post about! But soon……I promise!!!
  • I can’t wait for “Ain’t Misbehavin'” to open at the Temple Theater!!!! It is running May 29th thru June 22nd! I’m sad that it is the last show of the season, but I think this show is a great one to close the season — going out with a bang!!! I think some friends and I are planning to go on the 12th, but I don’t know if I can wait that long — I just may have to sneak off and go see it long before that!
  • As for the Yankees — I do believe my post that declared to the world that I am convinced they can make a comeback and that I am NOT a fair weather fan WORKED!!! If I have read the game results correctly, they haven’t lost a game since that post – and I believe they have played about 3 since then! WOO HOO!!! Way to go, Yanks — keep up the good work!!!

I think that is all for now…..good night!

  1. Hey Kim — I too am really looking forward to Ain’t Misbehavin’!!! I think it will be a great one!

For George Norman – they have been doing a 1/2 off – going out of business sale for a couple of months now. I did also notice this week that it appears they are now closed. They are moving to the mountains.

I have heard nothing about Four Seasons and haven’t driven past there. I hope nothing has happened. I have a cousin who works there, so I will try to get the 411!!

  2. I can’t believe I haven’t noticed George Norman going out of business! I was in there just after the Christmas season – sometime in Jan/Feb. That is such a shame!

Also — duh — I must have had a brain freeze when I did this post – I meant Four Corners Framing – not Four Seasons! I’ll edit the post to correct that!

  3. You are so funny! Yes, Four Corners also went out of business and there is an antique/framing shop moving in from what I have heard!
