Oh, wait – no, it’s December! ha-ha!!! I swear – I have to carry a calendar with me to keep reminding myself that it’s December and almost Christmas and not Spring or Summer (as the absolutely gorgeous weather may make us believe)……..
I am going to be so spoiled that I’ll be in total shock when the weather turns more typical for the season!
I went to see August Rush today………good movie!!!! I really enjoyed the story and the acting was good — reminded me that true love transcends all and that the bonds of family and love win out in the end! Definitely a must see!
Oh wait — no, it’s December!!! But it sure felt like Spring today and is supposed to get more Spring like over the next few days! I really enjoyed the weather yesterday and today — so nice!!!!
Have you ever had the feeling you were being watched? Well, I get that feeling every time I look out my back door across the yard behind me to the house that faces me across the street. It is because of the way the people who live there did their Christmas decorations — it makes the house look like a giant face starring right at my back yard!!!
Picture this:
In the upstairs windows, they have one candle light in each of two windows — the windows are positioned on each side of the front of the house — spaced apart like a set of eyes.
Then, in the downstairs windows, there is a single window centered with a 3 light candle light — the 3 lights are positioned perfectly centered between the two in the upstairs windows — looking like a mouth.
In the dark, these lights look like eyes and a mouth creating the illusion of a giant face starring at me!!!! These lights are on all the time, so whenever I look out in the dark, I see it starring back at me……it’s really quite eerie!!!!
Then, when the people are home, they also light up a string of lights that look like they are along the porch railing beside the downstairs window. This string of lights is slightly curved and makes the view even more eerie looking —- when the string of lights is lit, it looks like a cockeyed smile — you know, like the smile a person has if they have had a stroke or other paralysis on one side of their face — the smile curves up on the right side of the “face”, but not the other — like it is smirking at me while it is starring at me………………
It’s not really as disturbing as I make it sound — it’s actually kinda funny and interesting —- but, it did give me a little shiver the first time I noticed it and recognized it as a giant face starring at me……………………..ha-ha!!!!
Friday morning, the girls woke me at the usual time, in their usual way — 6:30 am on the button they started taking turns coming up behind me, reaching their chins across my cheek, stretching to get little kisses in – then each one runs down to the door to wait while the next one goes through the ritual – when the third is done and I am not sitting up, they start all over again!!!! I usually lay there pretending to sleep so that all three go through the ritual at least 3 times……….I’m a meanie……….but, I love the ritual and want to make it last!!!! ha-ha
This Friday, when I got up, they raced to the back door and I followed sleepily………..I opened the door for them and they raced out — all exactly the way the morning goes every single morning — with one exception:::::: That morning, the minute they rushed out, they all hit the deck and simultaneously – like a perfectly choreographed routine – slipped causing their back legs to go out from under them and they all landed on their butts at the exact same time and in the exact same direction!!!!! My eyes widened and as they scrambled to get back on their feet and continue out to the yard, I said, “um, look out, the deck might be a little slick…”!!!! ha-ha-ha!!!! (don’t worry, they weren’t hurt and they slowed down after that and took the steps carefully – once I knew that, it was OK to think it was funny)
Where is the video camera when you need it????? That would have been an AFV grand prize winner, for sure!!!
Some of the high points of the week:
Christmas Show at the Temple:
I took my staff to see the Thursday matinee of A Carolina Country Christmas at the Temple Theater this week. It was soooooooooo good! The story touched everyone! We all really enjoyed it. It was a nice day!
Holiday Get Together:
Thursday evening, I enjoyed a relaxing evening with friends at the BPW Holiday Get Together. We had good conversations, lots of food, and an ornament exchange. It was a lot of fun!
Gas Prices Dropping:
I paid $2.91 for gas today!!!! Woo Hoo — it’s dropping!!!! This is good news for all, but I am especially happy – I have a 300 horse power V8 engine in my Mustang!!!!
New Authentic German Restaurant In Town:
There is a new authentic German restaurant in town — Brathaus — located where Jersey Mike’s used to be in that Stadium Center plaza on Bragg Street behind the big Rite Aid drug store. I tried it out Friday evening for dinner — very good!!! It is a quaint, relaxing little restaurant with German music to create a warm atmosphere. It isn’t cheap – in fact, it’s a tad pricey — but it is WELL worth it!!!! I had some special pork chops that were encrusted with seasonings and served with a Vienna salad (tomatoes and onions in a delicious vinegar based dressing), caramelized onions, mashed potatoes, red cabbage, and garlic bread. The food was served on what I would consider a large oval platter and there were THREE (3) pork chops!!! It was enough food for an army — I brought some home and had it for tonight’s dinner!!! The pork chops were the most tender, moist, and delicious pork chops I have EVER eaten — even the one I ate cold the next day was perfect!!!! I was told that I would be an IDIOT if I passed up the Strudel, but I was so full – I was sure I wouldn’t enjoy it if I did try to eat some — but, since I certainly didn’t want to be considered an IDIOT, I got a take out serving. I had that this evening, as well —- YUM —- it was fabulous —- I can only imagine what it would have tasted like if I had eaten it the way it was meant to be eaten – warm with a scoop of ice cream!!!
The Weather
It was damp, cold, and cloudy most of the week, but today was BEAUTIFUL — high 60s, sunny, just lovely!!! And, it’s supposed to get into the 70s several days this week — is this really December???? I am looking at the calendar – the picture this month is a lighthouse scene with ice and snow covered land around it and a very cold looking sky —- but that certainly isn’t the scene here! I hope the weather is nice while my Mom is here!
That’s all I can think of for now!!!
Uugghh — I am having one of my periodic bouts of insomnia — I fell asleep almost instantly when I went to bed at 11:00, but have been awake and tossing and turning since about 12:30 — can’t get back to sleep — I’m gonna suffer at work tomorrow!!!!!
I didn’t go see either of the movies I was debating seeing this weekend. The blogs on “Awake” don’t sound so good, so the decision was to see “August Rush”. But, I ended up having so many odds and ends to take care of that I never got around to it. Maybe next weekend!
I had one of those moments we all get from time to time — whatever it was, here it is:
I got home from running some errands mid-afternoon. When I got home, I got out of the car, gathered my things, and headed towards the front door. I walked up the porch steps and when I reached the top of the steps, I held out my key ring, pointed it at the front door to my home, and pressed the button on my key remote………………..the kicker is, I actually pressed it TWICE before I realized that the reason I didn’t hear the familiar “click” was that my key remote works just fine on my CAR, but not my house!!!!!! DUH!!!!!
