May 16th: “Street Signs”

I was in Brockport today for an appointment and had lunch (well, it was lunch time, but I actually had eggs and bacon, so was it lunch or breakfast???) at the Brockport Diner. The Main St canal bridge is closed for repairs/restoration, so one of the possible detours takes us over this high, one lane bridge with sharp curves on each side…..so, there is a signal light to aid traffic and a LOT of signs for various things – no parking, restriction of trucks, announcing the sharp curve and the signal light and the one-lane bridge – among other information! As I approached, I instantly decided to pull over and get this shot for today’s topic!

I hope they leave the signal light there — it makes it so much easier to cross this particular bridge — the curves on either side make it very difficult to see on-coming traffic over a one-lane bridge! During the mid-70’s to mid-80’s I lived in Brockport and crossed this bridge from time to time and it always made me nervous – there was no signal light back then!

I love the look of the building on the right side of the photo! So eclectic and “old English” looking! The ivy covering extends this way far beyond what is shown in the photo. Also – on the left side of the street out of view of this photo, is a tired old building that used to be a very popular nightclub called “The High Bridge” — I admit to spending my share of time in there!

Aside from all the power lines and poles, I really love this photo for a variety of reasons!

May 15th: “Weathered”

I drive by this old barn / shed a lot and have used it as a photo topic in the past. So when I saw today’s topic was “Weathered”, I knew I had to take a drive to this spot!

While I find these types of scenes a bit sad and wonder what stories they would have to tell if they could talk, I also find myself drawn to them when looking for something to photograph! There is beauty and character in them…..just as much as a new or restored or fancier architecture!

May 14th: “Eyes”

I wore glasses or contacts most of my life – since about the 3rd grade! Like most people, my vision progressively got worse. By the time I was in my late 30’s/early 40’s, I was a tad shy of being considered legally blind and had a severe astigmatism. I decided to see if I was a candidate for Lasik surgery – I was and I had it done in February 1999! What a difference my life has been since then! They told me at the time that it would not stop the natural aging of the eyes (you know – when your arms stop being long enough to read – haha) and they didn’t have enough data, yet, to tell how long it might last me – the estimate was 10-15 years. Well – last year – 24 years later, I started needing to think about reading glasses. I now use progressive bifocals when reading and if my eyes are tired at the end of the day…..so happy I got 24 wonderful years of perfect vision…..and, now I don’t mind at all having to wear these beauties on occasion!!!

I actually have three pair so that I don’t have to look for them when I need them……this pair of blue ones I keep in my purse…..I have a pair of rose gold ones on my desk at home……and the third pair is a bronze color and they are on my desk at the church!

May 13th: “Colorful Umbrella”

Didn’t see anything I could interpret as a “colorful umbrella” today……so had to give in to my archives! This was taken in Barcelona in September 2022.

May 10th: “Clock”

This is the clock on our Main St downtown! It’s a lovely clock! I would have liked to include the historic Erie Canal just beyond this spot in the photo, but the lift bridge is being rebuilt and restored and there are all kinds of barriers and signs and construction equipment and vehicles and a half finished lift bridge…..didn’t make for a very pretty photo! So, I angled the shot to just get the clock and part of one of our oldest buildings, which is right on the canal.

The forecast for today was cooler and rain most of the day…..well, it was a bit cooler (60-ish), but it didn’t rain!!! It was actually a pretty day! I got some work done at the church and then had lunch and went for a pedicure….then took my car through the carwash and came home for a nap! Great way to enjoy a Friday!

I see tomorrow’s topic is “Cups”…..hhhhmmmm…….wonder what I’ll capture for that!!!???

May 9th: “Framed”

I love this rabbit…..especially his eye glasses! I had someone ask if he was old and where he came from. Well….I don’t really know…..I spotted him in an antique shop years ago and just had to have him….beyond that, I have no idea what his “story” is!

I often use him and some of his “friends” to meet a photo topic. I knew I wanted to do something with him for this topic, but had two ideas in mind….the one above won the debate…..here’s the alternate shot:

I call this one:

“I’ve been FRAMED!!! I’m innocent, I tell ya!!!”

May 8th: “Busy Street”

Cloudy, windy, yucky day….but still managed to see enough cars at our main intersection in town to satisfy today’s topic! LOL And, no I did not get out of the car in the rain to get the photo — I shot it through my windshield parked in the drug store parking lot….like it or not, that’s what you get, today! 😉

May 7th: “Friendship”

I had this idea for today’s topic….a couple friends holding hands with a nice background – just showing the hands clenched. But, I needed help to make it happen! Enter my friend, Marsha, into the story! She suggested the “Welcome Friends” sign and helped me stage the photo on the altar at our church….she also used her much longer arms than mine to snap the photo! LOL A little cropping later and there it is….a photo that represents “Friendship”….and “Collaboration”, for that matter! The photo looks a little more like a handshake than two friends holding hands, but it is what it is…..and I’m happy with the results!

As I’m sitting here writing this, I am looking out at another gorgeous spring day — the colors are so striking!!! Especially my beautiful pink dogwood that is in brilliantly full bloom!!! I see in the forecast that it is going to be cooler and rainy the next few days, so I’ll enjoy this while I am able. I’m publishing this post and heading out to my deck to soak up some sun and read a bit.
