Mail

I’m not a bit sorry to admit that I get irritated when I walk across the street to my mailbox and there is either nothing but junk mail in it or it is totally empty! The distance isn’t a big deal — it’s just the length of my driveway and then across the street. It’s the principle! LOL

So – I am so very happy there is now a program with the USPS called “Informed Delivery”!!! When you sign up your address for this program, you get a daily email (mine usually comes at 7:30 am-is) showing a scanned photo of all the mail you’ll be receiving that day….or you don’t get an email, if there is nothing to notify you about! Some weeks I don’t walk across the street for days because I know there is nothing but junk mail….or nothing….waiting for me in the box. Does that make me lazy? I don’t think so….it makes me someone who values not wasting my time and energy for unimportant things….again, that time and energy is negligible, but that’s not the point, is it?

Then there are days like today…..days when the 7:30 am email comes and I get so excited about what it is announcing that I literally can’t wait till the mail carrier delivers the items being announced later in the day. Days when if I cross the street a little too early or the mail carrier is just a little late and there is nothing there, yet (or the box is only filled with the previous days junk mail) and I DON’T get irritated that I wasted my time….no, it just builds the anticipation even stronger….and, if I do empty it of previous days junk mail, then I confirm that when the mail DOES come, it will just be the items that got me all excited about receiving!

That’s what happened today! I knew I was expecting something from a dear friend and something from the travel agency that I booked an upcoming overnight trip with. I got home from my Wednesday duties at the church, a few errands, and lunch and walked across the street to get the mail. I immediately took the envelopes in to my desk, retrieved my letter opener, and opened them!

The first envelope contained a beautiful card from a lovely friend…..the message was so sweet and meant a lot to me…..put a huge smile on my face! While you may think the front of the card is touching, it was what was inside that really touched me…..and I’m not sharing that — it’s just for me!!! The second one I opened was the instructions and info for the upcoming overnight trip….reminding me that I have an adventure planned soon and it just might be time to start a countdown…..might be a tad early for that, but it got me started to feel the anticipation begin to build for it!

Mail…..love it or hate it……junk, bills, bad news….or…..something amazing!!!

  1. Thanks for the info about Informed Delivery. I didn’t know there was such a service. I’m now signed up for it.

      • The first day we only got the paper, so it told me no mail. This morning it did show 3 pieces of mail. It is cool!l
