Just a few thoughts I feel worthy of jotting down!
I loved the movie, Gremlins!!! I was in an all day meeting yesterday and talk about “our inner gremlins” came up a few times — it made me think about the movie and the cute little Gizmo!!! Then, low and behold, I was flipping channels this morning and came across Gremlins on ABC Family. I was catching it right at the beginning, so I put the remote down and watched it!!! What a treat!!!
Gremlins came out in 1984 and starred Hoyt Axton and others, including a young Phoebe Cates and Corey Feldman — but the real star was GIZMO as the adorable, lovable little Mogwai. Axton’s character obtains Gizmo as a Christmas gift for his son — they are warned of three very important rules: 1. Keep him out of bright light – especially the sunlight; 2. Keep him away from water – don’t ever get him wet; and 3. Never, ever feed him after midnight!
Of course, one by one, the rules are broken and serious consequences ensue!!! As the Gremlins multiply with each new “generation” more cunning and meaner than the prior batch, they wreak havoc on the sleepy little town! It sends a powerful message that rules are there for a reason and they are NOT made to be broken!!! ha-ha-ha
My very favorite scene is when the gang of destructive Gremlins take over a movie theater and watch Snow White — they make a mess of it and throw popcorn and drinks all over the place — but they also sing along and bee bop to the “Hi Ho Hi Ho” movie that the seven dwarfs sing — it was wild!!! The scene ends badly for the Gremlins, but it is still cool watching them enjoy the movie!!! ha-ha
This movie cute and funny — a real gem!!! I highly recommend it, if you haven’t seen it — it’s a good kids movie, but be warned – it might be a little scary for some young ones who get freaked out about monsters – you might want to see it first to decide if you approve it for little ones.
More on Gremlins of a different kind:
In the 1970s, American Motors (AMC) built a line of cars called Gremlin X. For those who don’t know – AMC was the auto company that produced such automobile models as Rambler, Nash, Eagle, Pacer, Gremlin, and Jeep – before they were bought out by Chrysler in the 80s. The Gremlin X was a cute little hatch back. I actually owned TWO Gremlins — both were the GT models (I always go for the sportier models) – one was white with blue stripes and denim blue jean material for the seat upholstery that I bought used not long after I got out of high school – the other was bright orange with white stripes and black leather interior that I bought new off the show room floor a couple years later!!! The joke was that the Gremlin X looked more like a “pregnant roller skate” than a real car! But — they were cute little cars and , like most AMC cars, they were dependable! I really enjoyed my Gremlins — until I traded the orange one in on a brand new Camaro Berlinetta the last year they made the longer, more classic version.
So – that’s all I know about Gremlins…….
