I spent some time on Saturday at the ARTober Fest and the Brush and Palette Show. I went early because I had several things I had to get done and didn’t want to get busy and miss out on the chance to go! I don’t know if the visitors increased through the day (according to the Herald article this morning, it sounds like it did get busier), but while I was there, the crowd was pretty sparse. This was disappointing to me – the thought I had was that people were really missing a great way to spend a Saturday morning and the opportunity to see the talents of some of their neighbors. But – the threat of rain and the tons of other things going on around the area probably made it hard for folks to “do it all”. The plus side was that it wasn’t difficult finding a close place to park…….
I went to Depot Park first for ARTober Fest – wandered around looking at the exhibits, sat on a bench and enjoyed the cool breeze and the entertainment, and ran into some friends.
Then, I went to the old Armory for the Brush and Palette Show – last year, I picked up a lovely floral painting of pink roses in a silver coffee pot by Geneva Metcalf and it hangs prominently in my kitchen. Yesterday, I went with the I hope of finding something that reached out and grabbed me like that one did. I wasn’t disappointed — in fact, I found TWO pieces that I decided to purchase. One is a wonderful black and white pencil sketch of a lovely lighthouse by John McAuley that is going to hang in my guest bathroom! I love lighthouses and it is the theme decor in my guest bathroom. It will be a lovely addition to the other prints and whatnots that focus on lighthouses – especially after I finish the painting phase of my renovation plans and that room becomes a soothing light blue. The other piece is a floral painting called “Wildflowers” by Nancy Findley. This is planned for the master bathroom – the peach/pink shades will go perfectly in that room! I can’t wait until next Sunday when I can go pick up my new art and get them hung so I can begin enjoying them. Maybe I’ll drop in today and “visit” them…….ha-ha!
At lunch time, I wasn’t really hungry, but I couldn’t resist stopping in at Renalds to show support for them opening on a Saturday (not usual for them). I had a salad and some of the absolutely delicious apple crisp that Joni made special for the day!
Then, I went about the business of the day……
WOW – what a game!!! Yanks – Indians went 11 innings!!! Sadly, the last winning run was by the Tribe, but it sure was a wild game!!!
The post season really gets started Sunday, though — the next game is Sunday at the “House That Ruth Built” in the Bronx — no bugs allowed!!! Ha-Ha
OK — I admit New Yorkers have a reputation for being arrogant, but this takes the cake!!!! Man, this is really hysterical…….I laughed so hard I could hardly breathe!!!! Whether you love or hate the Yankees, you’ll get a kick out of this!!!!
I really needed a good laugh, too — I read this while I was watching tonight’s game!!! ;-( I got home late – some things came up that I needed to take care of (it was one of those weeks!!!!), so I didn’t get to turn on the game until the 6th inning and saw the score and said “oh, oh” and it went down hill from there……..12-3 Indians is a little tough to swallow (good game, Indians)!!! But – it’s just the beginning and the Yankees are really good at turning things around!!!!! They aren’t out of the Series, yet……..
We now have another choice for dinner in Sanford – Fresh Choice has decided to stay open for dinner on Mon-Thurs until 8:00! Nice!!! Pass the word……
Yesterday and today were so lovely!!! Yeah, today had some periods of heavy cloud cover, but I still so enjoyed the weather both days!
I grew up just off one of the Great Lakes, Lake Ontario, where there is almost always a really nice breeze (I won’t go into what I think of that breeze during the winters and that wind brings in major lake effect snow…)! I love feeling the wind on my face and the smell of a fresh breeze. So – the breezy days we’ve had this week were so welcoming to me! I wanted to just stay outside and soak it all in! And the temperatures were really quite pleasant, too!
But the icing on the cake was at lunch time today — I went out for lunch to run some really fast errands (I made a quick stop at All Animals to buy some food for the girls, popped into the post office to get some stamps and mail a couple letters, and grabbed the sub I called in an order for from Lil Dino’s to take back and eat at my desk) — as I was walking from the car back in to my office, I walked slowly to enjoy the breeze as long as I could. I looked up at the sky and it was the most breathtaking shade of blue with dabs of bright white cotton-like patches strategically placed for maximum effect and beauty…………I stopped and stared into the sky, feeling the strong breeze on my face and thought “man, I need to be home on my patio napping in my hammock – not going back in to work!” But, unfortunately, I couldn’t come up with a valid reason to tell my boss I needed to leave for the rest of the day…….not that I actually considered it, you know! ha-ha
So, I went in, ate my sub while I reviewed some documents and worked on a spreadsheet, and finished out the rest of the day…….but, luckily, our campus is spread out over multiple buildings and office trailers so I get to walk outside to get from one meeting to another or to take care of various business and take advantage of these beautiful days. Of course, that’s a real drag when it’s raining or cold or super hot……….but, I’ll consider it a benefit for now!
Well, I’ll be darned — My coveted NY Yankees got a “thumbs up” on the Opinion page (pg A6) of the Sanford Herald this morning!!!!!
Hard to avoid recognizing GREATNESS, isn’t it……he-he-he
(scan down and see my earlier post about the Yanks….)
After all the Gala planning, home renovations, and other stuff going on either done or not the major time consuming activity it was, I promised myself a weekend that focused on relaxation… I kept that promise and had a wonderful day!
After my chilly awakening (see previous post), I bummed around the house a little – read the Sanford Herald on-line, caught up on the blogs I have in my favorites, balanced my check book, paid some bills, did a load of laundry, emailed and exchanged IMs with my Mom, and played with the girls.
About noon-ish, I was dressed and ready to head out for the day. The plan was to hit some downtown shops to start getting ideas and maybe even buy a few things to kick off the Christmas shopping season. The last two years, I started way too late and was still shopping at the last minute – totally contrary to my usual practice of being done by Thanksgiving…
I came home and took a nap with the girls and feel totally refreshed and renewed! Other than the couple of first Christmas gifts, it was a totally unproductive and non-hectic day — just what I had in mind!!!!
Some possible items on my tentative agenda for next Saturday – BPWs Game of Life, Memory Walk, ARTober FEST at Depot Park, The Brush and Palette Show at the Old Armory, and maybe a visit to George Norman…..Saturdays throughout October will be devoted to hitting specialty shops for Christmas shopping!
Saturdays are back to what they should be…WOO HOO!!!
