5000

WOO HOO — I as of today, 5000 visitors have found and, hopefully, enjoyed my blog!  All just since I moved my blog to WordPress!  If you add that to the unique visitors that were on the counter when I left Blogger, I have given almost 10,000 visitors something to read!!!

What’s on my mind?

So, what’s on my mind this morning?  LOTS!!!  I, like some of my fellow bloggers, have been pretty bad about blogging on a regular basis!  Mostly because I have been on two vacations in the last couple of months and been really busy with stuff!  But — enough of the excuses!!  I’m back and plan to  write more often again!

OK, for starters — I thought it was looking like it was going to be a lovely Saturday, weather-wise, and now it is raining and not looking so good!  I was really hoping for a great weekend that I could get out and go cruising with the top down – guess not!

I am almost to a major milestone for my blog — I will soon hit 5000 visitors – as of right now, I am at 4,951!!!  Of course, this is only since I’ve been on WordPress - I moved to WordPress in September 2008, so I’ve gotten almost 5,000 visitors in about 8 months!!!  WOW!!!  When I left Blogger, I had about 4,700 unique visitors logged in and I was using that blog service for a year!  So — thanks, WordPress viewers!!!  I’m happy that you are enjoying my little site!!!

Communities In Schools is hard at work planning and organizing our very first “Dancing With The Lee County Stars” fund-raising event!  It is scheduled for August 21st at the Civic Center!  Watch for more info and plan to join us!  If you know of anyone who is really good at ballroom dancing and may enjoy donating their time to help us by being paired with a “star” or other help we may need, please call the CIS office at 718-5426 or you can leave a comment here!

I can’t wait for “Dames at Sea” to start at the Temple Theatre – it is their last show of the season and it promises to be the Grand Finale!!!  The show starts with their “pay what you can” night on May 27th and runs through June 14th.

I’m finally going to get the white walls in my house painted!!!  It has been on my project list every year since I bought the house in January, 2004!!  Every year something else comes up that I decide is a higher priority.  This year, I actually made it a New Year’s Resolution, too!!  I was determined!!!  But, what ended up making it happen was my best friend has been laid off – his job at Transmatic went away when they closed down – and he has the time and I’d rather pay him than some stranger!  I gave him my wish list and he is going to see what he can get to for me – the priorities are painting my walls and adding some ways to organize my garage better!  So — I’m looking through swatches to decide on colors and thinking about what I need to get done to prepare the house for the job!!!  Oh, boy!  What fun this is going to be!!!

I was looking to see if there was a movie I might be interested in seeing at the theaters this weekend…….probably not!  I was excited about seeing “The Soloist” when the previews came out, but I have decided that I don’t want to support the career of someone who thinks it is funny to tell a 16 year old girl to “go make a porno movie and grow up”, to suggest she take heroin and become a lesbian, and hopes she catches chlamydia on a bicycle seat – and I believe there were other sexual comments, as well!!!  Yeah, I know Jamie Foxx apologized to Miley Cyrus, but the comments were totally uncalled for and absolutely inappropriate for a man of his age (any age, for that matter) to make to a young girl – I don’t care if she is a celebrity or what she said that made him think it was funny to sound off on her like that!!!  So – “The Soloist” is off my list of potentials!  I also thought about seeing “Obsession”, but haven’t heard anything good about it — has anyone seen it?  I may give this one a try!  I considered “Star Trek”- yep, I’m somewhat of a trekkie – but I hear it isn’t as good as the hype about it and that the filming will make you dizzy!!!  I think I’ll wait a while to hear from some others before I spend my money – maybe I’ll just wait for it to be available on NetFlix!  So – not sure if there will be a movie review posted this weekend or not…..

I guess that’s all I can think of at the moment…….but, I’ll be back!!!

Hello, WordPress!

Well, this is my first post on WordPress — all the other posts in this blog were originally written on my blog on Blogger.  I transferred them all over here so that I can keep all my thoughts – past and future – in one place!

I had a lovely dinner with friends at the Down Home Buffet - I was really hungry, too – I hadn’t eaten since lunch yesterday!  I did have a pack of peanut butter crackers about 9:00 am….  I wasn’t hungry last night or this morning – then, a meeting went through lunch, so I didn’t get out until 2:00 and decided that it was too late to eat lunch cause it would spoil my supper!  By the time I got to eat tonight, I could have eaten the table and chairs and not bothered to fill a plate!  ha-ha

Well – I have a ton to do in the morning, so I am going to go get some sleep!

My blog is having a birthday!!!

On August 12, 2007, I decided to start a blog! I didn’t know many people who had blogs and wasn’t sure what I would do with one, but I wanted to give it a try! My very first post was about how I had purchased and installed a new flusher handle on my toilet – all by myself (click here to read it)! Now a couple days shy of one full year and 325 posts later, I have shared a TON of thoughts with people all around the world!!!

Some bloggers stick to a theme, some have a main focus while deviating from time to time, and some – like me – just write about whatever is on our minds!!! My blog is called “Kim’s Thoughts” and my tag line is “Just some random thoughts I feel worthy of jotting down” – I am glad I have stayed true to that! I didn’t want to think too hard about what to write about — I just wanted to sit at the computer and write whatever traveled from my brain to my finger tips! On that first post, Joe Jon left a comment telling me that I’ll be surprised what I find to talk about! And he was right — and, boy have I had fun doing it!!!

I have written a lot about my dogs (even started their own blog that I don’t keep up as well as I had hoped), reviewed a few movies, touched on some nostalgia and sentimental memories, and described my adventures and favorite places around town. And then there has been the “in general” brain dumps!!!

At first, I was really concerned about trying to keep my blog from being discovered by too many strangers – even though I knew it was a public forum and anyone knowing how to do a Google search could find me. I tried to only give out my address to a few friends and hoped it wouldn’t get out too much. In fact, I noticed that Joe Jon added me to his blog roll and I asked him to please not do that — I also asked Billy Liggett to not put me on HIS blog roll, which he honored (for a while). But – as I got more comfortable about it all, I slowly made it more known — then, just as I was about to tell Joe Jon and Billy to go ahead and add me, Billy outed me!!!! ha-ha-ha-ha!!!! And the rest is history!!!

I now have a nice list of regular readers – mostly local folks that I have on my blog roll and personal friends and family – and I get around 40-50 hits on average most days – some days more! That’s not huge and many of them are one time hits that find me through Google searches, but I’m happy with that!!! I still write for my own benefit more than to give my readers something to read — but if they find it interesting or entertaining, then that’s great, too!!!

So — here’s to another year!!! If you are still reading what I have to say a year from now, then I guess I’m doing something right!!! Be sure to check out my blog roll and visit all the other super cool Sanford Blogs! I’ll see you along the Information Super Highway — I’ll be the one with the red Mustang tooling along with the top down rambling on about whatever random thoughts I might have when you happen to cross my path!!!

1313 and 30,000

Two numbers – 1313 and 30,000 – have had some significance to me over past couple of days. Here is why:

  • 1313 — Saturday I registered 1,313 unique visitors! The number caught my eye for a couple reasons – 1st = double 13, double bad luck??? and 2nd = 1313 Mockingbird Lane is where the Munsters lived! ha-ha I wondered who the 1313th visitor was in case they might want to know they held this distinction – were they superstitious??? Of course, you can’t identify the specific person – just their URL and ISP. But – in case you can recognize yourself with this info, you will know you were the 1313th unique visitor to my site: This person is from Sanford, uses Windstream to connect to the internet, and is a regular return visitor – in fact, they actually visited 3 times Saturday prior to and including the 1313th visit – at 10:02, 12:11, and 4:00!
  • 30,000 — On the way home from work today, I rolled my odometer over to 30,000 miles on my Mustang! I bought it on April 9, 2005, so it is just barely 3 years old! I’ve kept the mileage down nicely! Living so close to work helped! But, I have taken her on some trips, too — she’s been to the mountains a few times, the coast a couple times, VA, PA, WVa, and NY – each multiple times! Still averaging 10K a year!

So – the #s 1313 and 30,000 go down as milestones in my history!

Dancing, Medium, Visitors

Woo Hoo!!! Dancing With The Stars is BACK!!!! Season 6 began tonight!!! The guys did their thing tonight and the ladies are on tomorrow night!!! So far, it looks good — most of the guys did a good job for the first week on the floor…….the season is off to a great start – we’ll see what the ladies have to offer tomorrow!

I also managed to stay awake long enough to watch Medium tonight, too — I slept through the first new show since the writer’s strike last week……it was good tonight!

I’ve logged in 533 unique visitors on my blog – but the big milestone is that I have reached 1000 page loads!!! And I’ve only been keeping track since around Thanksgiving or so…….thanks to all who are regular visitors and to those who just pop in based on a search or link from a fellow blogger!

I want comments!!!!

What do I have to do to get people to comment on my posts???? I had a record # of hits yesterday – 30 – in one day!!! And not one single comment!!! ;-(

I know my posts aren’t terribly interesting or thought provoking, but there must be SOMEONE who has an opinion that is worthy of telling me about!!!

So – what do I need to do? Pay you? OK, then – every comment to this or any other post on this blog dated today or tomorrow (Sat / Sun – Feb 23/24) will be considered for a $100 cash prize!!!

Bring on the comments!!! Let’s see how many comments I get this weekend…………show me you’re out there!!!

Sunday Evening Ramblings

As of today, I have had more than 300 hits on my blog — I have only been tracking hits since about the holiday time frame, so that is pretty good!!! And, the # of return visits is rapidly making up 1/2 of the total, so I’m getting a lot of regular readers! Woo Hoo — I’m becoming popular! ha-ha-ha

I am watching “My Big Fat Greek Wedding” on the Family Channel — I’ve seen it several times and never get tired of seeing it again! It is one of the funniest movies ever — and a good love story, too!!! And educational — it is where I learned that any injury or ailment can be cured by spraying Windex on it!!! ha-ha-ha

My sweet Amy always looks like she is holding the weight of the entire world on her shoulders – she scrunches her forehead up so that it is all wrinkled and hangs her head down sorta cocked to one side and whimpers at me — she’s so forelorn!!!! She’s so gentle and wants to cuddle more than either of the other two girls……..we play “come closer” all the time – that is when she snuggles in close (already about as close as she can get) and I pat my leg or shoulder and say “come closer” and she scooches in a little closer and I do it again and she pushes herself up against me tighter and we keep doing that until she looks at me like “goodness, gracious, how much closer can I get?” and just plops on top of me!!!! ha-ha-ha It’s like that scene in “Steel Magnolias” when Shirley McLaine’s character sits next to Debra Winger’s little daughter at the funeral and she keeps tapping her side to get the little girl to move closer and closer……. It’s a ritual with us and Amy loves playing it!!!

Another game we ALL play is “get silly on the bed” —- this was Puddles’ favorite game — she used to go running through the house and hit the bed and rub herself all over it and mess the blankets all up – the more I would encourage her by saying “are you getting silly on that bed?”, the more she would roll around………..then, Katie saw how much fun it was and began to play the game, but she would roll around on the bed and then when the blankets were all bunched up, she would get a hold of a corner and drag them into the living room to make herself a bed in there to rub all over!!!! Now, all the girls play the game all together — one will burrow their way up under the blankets and the others will bite and paw at the moving hump in the blankets and I’ll laugh and say, “who’s that under the covers? how silly can you get on that bed?” and the one under the covers will finally stick their head out to get a kiss —- they also work to push all the blankets and pillows off the bed onto the floor…………..what fun we have!!!!

Man, that wind was something else today!!!! I was out driving and almost got hit by a trash can flying across the street and a big limb that fell not far in front of me — then, I ran over something that flew in front of me so fast I couldn’t avoid it!!! Not sure what it was, but it doesn’t look like it did any damage – it sure banged up under my car loudly, though!!! Then, when I got home, the door on my shed had blown open, a piece of siding from the back of the house was on the ground, and all the deck furniture was scrunched all to one side of the deck – even a heavy park bench!!! I put everything back where it belongs and checked for major damage — none that I can see! WHEW! But – the siding piece came from way up just under the gutters – I don’t have a ladder that tall, so I will have to get a friend to come by with a tall ladder to put it back up for me!!!!

Well – the weekend is over!!! Tomorrow starts the last week in my current position — my transfer to my new position is effective on the 16th! Guess I’ll get some sleep to prepare for a busy week!

100th Post

WOW – when I posted my very first entry on this blog on August 12th, I didn’t think I would have a lot to say or anything that would be of any interest to anyone other than me and maybe a few family members or close friends ——— but look at this – as of today (Jan 2nd), I have posted 100 entries! And I have several regular readers and get new visitors from time to time! I even added a counter a couple weeks ago and have already logged in 33 visits (new and returning) – so someone is finding my thoughts interesting! ;-) This has turned into something I really enjoy and I’m happy to mark the milestone of 100 posts!!!! YAY……

So – now for the thoughts I planned to post before I logged on and noticed that this was my 100th post:

Something occurred to me last night – you know how some people have some highly overused words or phrases – you know, something they tend to say over and over, like a broken record? Well, I have a handful of phrases that I found my self saying and repeating – almost without even a conscious thought made to generate them………like I’m on autopilot and they just come out!!! Here they are:

  • Megan, no
  • Megan, stop
  • Megan, down
  • Megan, get out of there
  • Megan, leave that alone
  • Megan, what are you into

LOL – you gotta love my Megan-stein!!!!

My First Post

Hello! It’s Sunday and it was a lazy day, as all Sunday’s should be! At least we had a little relief from the heat wave that we have been experiencing the past week or so. It was still pretty hot, but it was less than 100 and not as humid, so it was a welcome change.

I did manage to accomplish one very important task, though – I went to Lowes and purchased a new flusher handle for the toilet in my master bathroom! It broke this morning, so I had to do something about it! These types of things come with being a homeowner. You don’t think about them until something goes wrong and then you have to figure out what needs to be done to fix it! In this case, I thought that the chain on the flapper thingy broke – that happens quite often and I’ve changed those mechanisms many times. But, when I lifted the tank lid and looked at the flapper thingy, the chain was intact – it was just laying on the bottom of the tank! I wondered how it came loose and noticed that the lever that the chain hooks onto was corroded and the bottom edge of the first two holes was no longer there! I tried to hook it to the third hole and it disintigrated, too! So, I bought a new handle and lever. It’s prettier than the one that was on there – it was just plain and silver! The new one is white porcelain and gold – very nice looking! And, I picked one that has a brass lever that is supposed to not corrode as easily!

Other than that, the girls and I lounged around and relaxed all day! Who are “the girls”? They are my dogs – Katie, an about 3 year old Golden Retriever Mix, and Amy and Megan – sisters that are about 1 year old and “your guess is as good as mine” breed. All three were rescues and I love them dearly!

Well, there are my thoughts and adventures for today!
